Tormod Torvanger mainly works with tax issues, partly as a tax partner in Rasmussen & Broch DA and partly as an associate professor at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH).
As a lawyer, he assists investors and businesses, as well as interest groups and public organizations, providing legal advice and handling disputes, hereunder representation before the courts.
Previously, Torvanger has been employed as a senior legal advisor with the Central Tax Office for Large Enterprises, as a senior lawyer with a Tier 1 law firm and as a lecturer at NHH. At the latter institution, he is still responsible for the courses Tax Law (bachelor level), Tax and Duties (master level) and Company Law (master level).
Torvanger’s PhD degree is based on the thesis “Access to the Norwegian tonnage tax system” (Gyldendal 2020), which analyzes the Norwegian tonnage tax scheme’s vessel-related qualification criteria in an international context. He is also a co-author of two leading commentaries to the Norwegian Tax Act.
Moreover, Torvanger is a participant in the Tax Research Forum at the University of Oslo and in the Tax Law Research Group at University of Bergen. He is also an external examiner at the latter institution.
Finally, Torvanger is member of the Norwegian Complaints Board for Petroleum Tax.
